Kegan's surgery

This morning was Kegan's surgery. Since she was the youngest patient of both doctors today, she got to go first. Great for us since we didn't want to deal with the hungry beast any longer than we had to. Kegan usually gets up about 5:30ish most days, so since her surgery was for 6:45, it wasn't too bad. We just had to make sure Daddy kept her in his arms before surgery so she wasn't tempted to nurse. She got to wear this really cool gown and even got to pick her flavor for her anesthesia mask.

Check out this fashionable purple gown

Daddy playing steal the passie
Ha, I won!

The surgery was relatively fast. About an hour or so, felt like an eternity to me. I was just about to start freaking out when the second doctor came out to talk to us and I was relieved to know that they were done. They called us back to be with her after the breathing tube was out. She was still very sleepy. The wakeup was kind of hard. 45 minutes of uncontrollable screaming and crying. That also felt like an eternity. She eventually woke up. Was pretty frustrated to find that her sucking thumb had been taped down with her IV, but it did have a handy injection port that was a pretty good substitute to suck on. By 9:30 we were on our way home. Kegan was all smiles waving to everyone as we walked through the hospital. Aaaah, almost back to normal. We are now home. I am amazed at how much better she is hearing. Guess we never knew any different, but she reacts to every little thing. Hope that one doesn't bite us in the butt! She is playing and getting into things as usual, just napping a bit more. She looks normal except for a little bloody drainage from her nose from the tear duct stent. She is enjoying the sound of her voice. A lot more chatty.

Kegan waving, but not looking at Daddy taking the picture Kegan really was happy, I swear

check out those chompers

Today Kegan went to the doctor for her 9 month check-up. She has ear infections....imagine that. Guess antibiotics quit working after a month. She's been on Omnicef continuously waiting to get her tubes. Good news though, she is getting ear tubes tomorrow morning so hopefully this will be the last for a long time. It has gotten to where I hardly notice when she has them. I'm curious to see if it'll change the way she acts any. She is really still a super happy baby, sick and all. She is getting a tear duct stent too in her right eye. It'll be a 2 for 1 special. Oh, other news, Kegan is officially bigger than her scrunt cousin Ava who is 16 months old. Kegan weighs in at 19.9 lbs and is 28 inches long. Between the 50-75th percentile for her age.....sweet big girl!

So I tried to get some pictures of her new set of chompers. Hard to get the crazies to settle long enough to take a picture. Aaron calls her little piranha. Her upper teeth are huge even though they have barely broken the skin. Wonder what they'll look like when they are all the way out.

After all that good stuff, some bad news. Madison found out today he has a skin cancer on his neck. The dermatologist biopsied it but feels sure it is cancer. He'll have the official results in about 3 weeks and will then decide the best way to remove it. I feel bad because when this spot first showed up about 4 months ago I really blew it off. I told Madison it wasn't healing becuase he wasn't taking care of it. Only the last month or so I got concerned becuase it was still there. He is usually really great about applying sunscreen, but guess it really can be from all the damage you receive as a child...you know before any of us knew it was so bad. He is after all half albino too, so sure that is part of the problem. His fair skinned daughter will never leave the house without a hat or sunscreen. Kinda scary to have skin cancer at 30 yrs old. Please keep him in your prayers.

Big Girl at School

This morning was Kegan's first day in the toddler group at daycare. She went equipped with a new trick......almost walking. She is picking up on everything so fast. We bought her this shopping buggy toy Sunday afternoon and when she realized it rolled away from her she sat in the middle of the floor crying. She woke up this morning with a new day and a new attitude and decided she could make it work. She started off with three steps behind it this morning and by this afternoon, she could take it the length of the living room. Guess this is just one of the many new tricks she will quickly pick up on. She figures stuff out so fast. Yikes!

And, speaking of yikes. Her other favorite trick is to pull up on the soap dish in the bathtub. We know it isn't the safest trick, but figure she'll quit once she busts her face on it......is that bad parenting? Hey, at least we have the slip-proof padded mat in the tub to cushion her fall and possibly soak up any blood. We aren't totally clueless. I already almost let her swallow the rubber cap to Aaron's doorstop......good one there Mom! I'm not the best at childproofing. Hopefully Kegan will survive until I figure it out. We do, however, own outlet covers and a babygate.....progress! We're getting there. (Kelly, tell Chad to close his eyes for this video. There is baby nudity, he may be offended)

Peaceful weekend at home

So, a little of the hustle and bustle is over. Aaron is nicely settled in here in Fort Worth and my work schedule has calmed down to a little more normalcy. We had a great leisurely weekend just hanging out and relaxing. Saturday morning Kegan, Madison and I met Jill at Trinity park for an early morning run. It was one of our last cooler days so we took advantage. Sunday morning the family headed back out the the Trinity trails with Jodi for a bike ride. Kegan really does well on our excursions. Guess we broke her in early. Here are some pictures of us later Saturday hanging out.
Happy, happy girl!
Kegan being coy for the camera.
Kegan looking at her picture book. Look at all those toys, too many perhaps.....naaaah!

Kegan on Sunday. You can almost get a glimpse at some of her new teeth. She now has 6. All 4 upper came in at once....boy was that a load of fun.............ummmm, not really?!Kegan quitely enjoying her book. She is finally interested in books. She is growing fast!

Home Sweet Home in Texas

Tuesday morning, Kegan, Nana, and I flew back home. Kegan did really well on the plane as usual. She really travels well. It was extremely comical watching Nana and I trying to navigate all our bags and Kegan through the airport. We forgot to load some of Aaron's stuff in the Uhal, so had 2 BIG extra bags of stuff besides our own to tote....whew!
When we got back to Fort Worth, we headed out to Target to get Aaron his essentials to get started. This is Kegan helping out. She and Fran had a good time searching for stuff. As you can see it was exhausting.

LA vacation day 5- the end

On Monday, Madison left town with Aaron to help him make his trip with Uhal and truck in tow to Fort Worth. They had rain most of the way, so we were all glad when they made it late that night. Kegan and I stayed in Raceland for an extra day and just hung out. Ava rediscovered her Bumbo since we had it out to feed Kegan in. She could get in great, then would get kind of stuck, but didn't seem to mind. She and Kegan played nicely sharing the Barbie cellphone.

LA vacation days 3 and 4- at the beach

Saturday afternoon, we headed out to Grand Isle. Kegan was pretty excited about getting to go to the beach. She loves water, as you know, so this was a pretty big deal for her. Saturday, we just hung out at the camp and played in the pool there. Kirk boiled shrimp and crabs and we ate, and ate, and ate. Sunday was the big beach day. We all got slicked up with sunscreen and headed out. This is Kegan in her suscreen mowhawk.Kegan loved the water. Splashed and splashed. Even ate some sand, but didn't seem to mind. The water made her skin really red around her eyes, but it didn't seem to bother her.

Swinging fun with Dad!

Vampire Baby?

No, but we did find out on our way home that Kegan may have her Mom's addiction for snowballs. She ate some of mine and Madison's and got really mad when we took a break to eat some ourselves instead of feeding it all to her. I think more made it on her face and shirt than actually down her throat.

LA trip day 2- graduation day

Friday August 8th was Aaron's big day. He is officially a real adult. Real job and all. He will be employed by MEDCO Construction (same company Madison works for). We are thrilled to have him live in Fort Worth, Mom is less than happy to lose another child to the great state of Texas. Sorry Mom!

We made an early trip to Baton Rouge to attend the ceremony. Kegan thought "Mike" the tiger was way cool. She even enjoyed sitting on the tiger statue.

Me (Lynette), Aaron, Madison and Kegan

Kegan enjoyed hanging out with Mawma. They were so sweet together. Kegan got to go for a ride in her sweet wheelchair. My arms appreciated the rest.

Once we got back to Raceland, Kegan enjoyed hanging with Paran Aaron. Check out this sweet hat he made for her. It is an old pull-up from Evan and Kegan just thought it made the coolest hat. Perhaps the Catholic church will start ordaining women as popes. Kegan wears the hat well don't you think?

Aaron enjoyed showing Kegan his super cool LSU diploma. He's one smart dude!

That night we had a graduation party for Aaron. We all dressed up in the colors of his Alma Mater......Geaux Tigers! Are these the 2 cutest future LSU cheerleaders or what?

Louisiana Trip- Day One

Thursday August 7th we flew into New Orleans for a long weekend with my family. My brother Aaron is graduating from LSU on Friday so we were there to cheer him on.

That evening, Pawpa and Mawma came to visit. Pawpa was so proud that he put Kegan to sleep. She enjoyed snuggling up to him for a nap. Cousins Ava and Evan joined in for a group picture.

After a good nap, Kegan enjoyed playing with Ava on her really cool stand-up toy. Kegan really liked acting like a big girl. She learned a lot of tricks from Ava. She now can pull up like a pro and will even get brave enough to let go for short periods of time to stand.

Lesson Learned!

Is this the picture of the cutest girl in Texas......maybe,

How about the sweetest............perhaps,

What about the stinkiest...........OH YEAH!

Thought I would share our experience with those out there trying to make their little ones well rounded in their food choices. I was looking for another green veggie to feed Kegan and decided to try asparagus. Everyone knows about asparagus stinky pee, but I now have a whole new appreciation for it. Asparagus pee in a diaper is horrible. At least when adults get it we can immediately flush it away. I changed Kegan's diaper three times today swearing it was poopy, only to find it full of extremely stinky pee. Madison said we can't give it to her anymore. She'll be the stinkiest kid in the tri-state area. No one wants to be the parents of the stinky kid. Today we were. Just thought we'd share for anyone else thinking about giving thier little one asparagus. Kinda sad, she really liked it. Maybe we'll just feed it to her on the weekends, so daycare doesn't report us to CPS.
