Weekend in Mississipi

We had a great weekend in Mississippi visiting friends and family. Madison raced in the Heart of Dixie Triathlon in Philadelphia, MS on Saturday. Our trip began early Thursday morning. It was the longest trip with Kegan so far and she did great. We stopped for a long lunch in West Monroe, LA for a little break. I usually strategically plan to pass through Monroe at some mealtime so I can take advantage of eating at El Chile Verde. Madison says it is an illness....I just say it is knowing what is good food. There Kegan got her first taste of icecream. At first I think the cold was suprising, but after that first taste, she was hooked. Kegan and Madison were covered. Good thing they were outside eating it.

Ummmmmm! Ice Cream!

That is cold!

But sure is yummy!

Kelly, Meredith, and Kegan

We arrived in at Madison's parents home in Monticello, MS later that evening and all the family was there to greet us. Here is Meredith and Kelly with Kegan. Kelly was letting Kegan play with her new toy iron. We had a great dinner and everyone got to play with Kegan a little while before we sent her off to bed.....She has an unusually early bedtime of 6:30, but it is what works with our ridiculously early work schedule. We did let her stay up a little late....7ish or so.

The next morning, Kegan and I were off to Geyser Falls with Alex, Bobby, Meredith and her friend Lakin. Madison and his parents went to Philadelphia to meet his coach Jack Weiss to pick up race packets and go over the race course. They were working while we were having fun in the sun. Kegan loves water. The more splashing the better. They had a great kiddi area that she could have stayed in all day. Kristin (Madison's niece) and her son Ashton met us at the water park. We all had the best time.

Wow Mom, Look at me!

Kegan was amazed at all the little water spouts in the little mini pools. She spent her time crawling from pool to pool and splashing. There were a couple of spit-up accidents, wouldn't be a day with Kegan without that. The chlorine should clean that out right?!

Friday night there was a dinner at the race start. It was a pretty special thing for us. Madison's coach Jack Weiss gave a talk about his experience racing in the Heart of Dixie triathlon many years ago. He raced the very first race in 1980. It was Jack's first triathlon ever. It was pretty significant for him because after that through a series of life experiences, Jack soon began a career in triathlons which her retired from the Air Force later to do. He is the founder and owner of Ironhead Race productions and currently puts on 25 races in the DFW area yearly. He has a team "Team Ironhead" which Madison is a member of. It was a great speech. Gives you a lot of perspective on the sport, how it has changed over the years and how it changes you as a person.

Our Saturday started early. Out at the race start by 5:30. Madison's good friend Bryan Bridges was racing so we got to spend time with him and his wife Christine.

Madison won the race edging the favorite out by 30 seconds. It was an exciting finish.

Madison and Jack both brought home hardware from the race for a great "Team Ironhead" presence at the race!

Madison and Bryan after an impressive finish by both. We are so proud of them.

Ava's eyes were glued to the computer as I looked through the pice. Had to play the clips more than once for her. She looks like she was having a ball.
